How to choose a resale profit tracker
A resale profit tracker records what you paid for each item, what each sale brought in, and what it cost to complete that sale. With one, you see the real result of every flip instead of estimating it from memory or from marketplace totals. The right tracker depends on how many items you handle, where you sell, and how much detail you need to keep.
Who needs a profit tracker
A tracker becomes useful when the numbers start to blur. These situations usually push resellers to look for one:
- You buy in bulk, such as lots, estate sales, or wholesale orders, and need to know what each piece cost.
- You sell on more than one marketplace, and each one charges different fees and handles shipping and refunds differently.
- You hold stock for weeks or months and need to see which items have been waiting the longest.
- You buy in a currency other than your home currency, or you receive store credit or cashback that changes what a purchase really cost.
- You want to answer "What did I make this month?" without rebuilding a spreadsheet each time.
If you sell only a few personal items a year, a notebook may be enough. What matters is whether the records add up and whether you can still trust them months later.
Compare the main options
There are four common approaches.
| Option | Strengths | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Paper notebook | Free and quick to start | Hard to total, search, or correct |
| Spreadsheet | Flexible, and you control every formula | Formulas break easily, and changing one number can quietly alter earlier results |
| Marketplace seller dashboard | Shows sales that already happened on that platform | Covers one marketplace and usually does not record what you paid for each item |
| Dedicated resale tracker app | Links purchases, items, sales, fees, and returns in one place | Takes time to learn, and it has to fit your device and your workflow |
Questions to ask before you choose
Use these questions to compare any tracker, including FlipKeep.
- Does every item link back to the purchase it came from? Without that link, you cannot tell whether a bulk purchase paid off.
- How does the tracker split a bulk purchase across items? Check whether you can enter a value for each line, and how shipping and other costs are handled.
- Are fees, shipping, packaging, and refunds recorded separately, and does each cost count once?
- Can you record a partial refund or a full return without deleting the original sale?
- When you correct a mistake, does the tracker keep the history?
- Do you need an account, and where are your records stored?
- Can you export your records, and in which formats?
- Does it run on the devices you already use?
- What does it cost, and can you test it before you pay?
Where FlipKeep fits
FlipKeep is a private resale profit tracker for iPhone and iPad. It works with three kinds of records: a Deal for each purchase, an Item for each resellable unit, and a Sale for each sale. Overview shows realized profit for the period you choose, and Inventory shows which items are still available to sell.
FlipKeep suits resellers who:
- want their records to stay on their own devices, without creating an account
- buy in lots and want costs spread across the items
- track fees, shipping, partial refunds, and full returns
- record purchases in a currency other than their home currency
FlipKeep is not right for every seller. It does not connect to marketplace accounts, create listings, look up comparable sales, estimate values, prepare tax returns, or download official fee schedules. Fee presets are numbers you enter yourself. The app is designed for iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 17.0 or later.
Test it with records you already know
The full app can be tried for 30 days before you commit. Use the trial to enter three records whose results you already know: one bulk purchase, one sale with fees, and one return or partial refund. If the profit for each one matches your own calculation, the tracker handles the cases that matter most to you.
If you already use a spreadsheet
Keep your spreadsheet running during the trial. Enter the same sales in both places and compare the results. When the numbers differ, trace the difference to one purchase or sale and check which record is right before you trust either one. A spreadsheet that has drifted for months is easy to miss until you compare it with a second record.
